It was a clean sweep on Saturday, July 15th for the Miracle League of Ottawa Baseball players. They broke the 8-game winning streak of the Ottawa Champions with a 23-0 win and with multiple home runs from all the Miracle League players. Families of the players, and people from around the community filled up the bleachers and the dugouts for this truly special baseball game. There was an opening ceremony to introduce the players as well as present a signed baseball card from Hal Lanier, manager of the Ottawa Champions, to Bryce Desrochers, who was the inspiration for The Miracle League of Ottawa Field of Dreams.
The sun was shining and there were smiles on everyone’s faces as the kids lined up to speak with the Ottawa Champions players and get all of their Champions gear signed. These baseball players are huge role models for the children who play with the Miracle League, and it was wonderful to see them interacting. Pictures were also taken with the Ottawa Champions and Miracle League mascots, Champ and Homer, who both came out to be part of the game.
Finally, a barbeque was held for all Miracle League players, their families, and the Champions. Everyone enjoyed hot dogs, ice cream sandwiches, and of course a lot of water to stay hydrated in the summer heat. It was a great way to end off session one of the all-ages baseball league and our no-rain streak continued! We would like to say a huge thank you to the Ottawa Champions for coming out to our field and playing with the kids. They really appreciated it, and the best reward was definitely seeing the smiles that were brought to them that day.
